FINDING INNER PEACE
Every individual is equipped with a certain amount of peace that only those who are devoted enough to look for it, find it. How do you feel when you wake up in the morning and see the break of dawn in the horizon? Do you pause for a moment and savor the feeling of completeness, of contentment? They say that the only way to find peace is by forgetting about what YOU want and desire, only then can you find true peace.
According to the Wikipedia Online Dictionary, Inner Peace is a state wherein a person is mentally and spiritually at peace, with enough cognition and perception to keep oneself strong and focused in times of discord or stress. Being at peace puts the body in a state of optimum balance, thus, one is noted as being healthy. Whereas a person who is at the opposite end of the continuum is considered to be attracting negative vibes and energy, thus, is unhealthy.
A lot of factors contribute to stress, which is, as we know, one of the reasons why a person or an individual cannot achieve a state of inner peace. Stress is a natural occurrence that affects an individual due to internal as well as external forces that directly target a person’s being. How this affects an individual is directly dependent on how he reacts to the stimuli. This force of nature is present in every aspect of living, may it be in the form of relationships with one’s self, with others, at the work place or through social interaction and communion with one’s given environment. Another aspect that also plays a big role in handling stress effectively is through a person’s internal factors that are in the form of a healthy diet or nutritional status, total health and fitness levels, emotional well-being and of course, a person’s time allotment for rest and relaxation. This reaction is very unique in every individual that these differences have far-reaching consequences for survival. But do you actually know that stress is not only viewed as a negative experience? Stress, from a biological point of view, can either be neutral, negative or positive.
A part of human evolution is how man, were able to survive the drastic and instantaneous challenges of stress through time. Their capabilities of survival have been tested because of their outstanding adaptive efficacy in dealing with various changes and stressors that they, as humans, have learned to master. According to a nursing theorist, Sister Callista Roy, the two mediators for human beings are thinking and feeling. Therefore, every action is an effect to how humans, in general, are responsible for making their own decisions and for the integration of creative processes. The four adaptive modes that have been identified are the physiologic-physical which are mainly the basic needs of man such as air, nutrition, elimination, activity, rest and protection; self-concept group identity which revolves around the spiritual aspect of man; the role function which encourages man to interact with the environment socially and developing relationships with them; and interdependence which defines man as a whole that is unable to function with all its parts.
These four factors, can be a very impacting basis for how we, unique as we are, should be able to think through the rights and wrongs, dos and don’ts of every happening in our lives. We are the masters of our own selves. We have continuously proven through time that we are the brainiest creatures to set foot on earth, therefore, durable in absolutely anything that goes around us.
